Essential oils - What are perfume notes?

What are perfume notes? Perfume notes are the ingredients that make up the fragrance. They are categorized by volatility, top being the most volatile and base being the least volatile.
Top notes (Head notes), are the first scent you detect from a perfume, they also evaporate much quicker than mid and base notes. (Examples – Lemon, Lavender, Orange and Rose)
Middle notes (Heart notes), make up the heart of the fragrance scent, they also assist in creating a more pleasant scent for the base note which may at first impression not be as inviting as mid and top notes. (Examples – Cinnamon Leaf, Lemongrass and Ylang Ylang)
Base notes and middle notes form the foundation of the fragrance, they bring solidity and substance, often used as a fixture to boost the top and middle notes. (Examples – Patchouli, Sandalwood and Cedarwood)
